Reporting a bug
The quickest way is from inside the game, because it attaches the details we need (mode, screen, season, era, app version and device):
- During a game: tap ๐ , then ๐ Report a Bug. Your game is saved first and you come straight back to it.
- From the main menu: Settings โ ๐ Report a Bug.
Then send it by email or post it on r/PlayHardwood with the Bug flair. A screenshot helps a lot.
Common questions
Where are my saves stored?
On your device only. There are no accounts. On the web, saves live in your browser for playhardwood.com. In the iPhone app they live in the app, with a backup copy in its private folder that's part of your normal iPhone or iCloud backup. The game autosaves after every game and whenever you leave the app.
Can I move a save between the website and the app, or to a new phone?
Not between the website and the app yet, because they keep separate storage. Moving to a new iPhone works if you restore it from an iCloud or computer backup of the old one.
How do I delete a save?
Press and hold the โ next to the save until the bar fills. A quick tap won't delete it, so you can't lose a career by accident. To delete everything, use Settings โ Clear All Saved Games (also press and hold). Deleted saves can't be recovered.
My saves disappeared on the website.
Browsers delete site data when you clear your history or cookies, browse in private mode, or (in Safari) after a stretch of not visiting the site. Saves can't be recovered after that. If you play mostly on iPhone, the app keeps saves more safely.
Is Hardwood free? Are there ads or in-app purchases?
It's free, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no account. It also works offline.
Are these real players and teams?
Player names and season histories come from public basketball statistics, every season from 1946โ47 to 2026โ27. Team nicknames are fictional, and the game has no logos. Hardwood is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by the NBA, the NBPA or any team. If you want a fully fictional league, turn on Random Mode.
What's the difference between Career and GM mode?
Career: build a player, go through the combine and draft, play or sim each game, and chase the Hall of Fame. GM: run a franchise with the draft, trades, free agency, the salary cap, ticket prices and an owner who expects results. Both can start in any season from 1946โ47 to today, and the league changes the way it really did, with expansion, relocations, rule changes and the cap.
What do I need to play?
iPhone: iOS 15 or later. Web: any recent Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge, on a phone or a computer.
Can I suggest a feature?
Please do. Post it on r/PlayHardwood with the Suggestion flair. Upvoted ideas get built first.
